Iran calls BRICS to end Western and US internet monopolies

BAKU, Azerbaijan, September 12. Iran proposes BRICS member countries remove the Internet from the monopoly of Western countries, the Secretary of Iran's Supreme National Security Council Ali Akbar Ahmadian. said on September 12 at a meeting of representatives of security services of BRICS member countries, TurkicWorld reports.

According to him, Western countries, especially the US, monopolize the Internet, crucial equipment, and some applications, which is a huge challenge in technology and cyber security. We must discover a solution to this problem.

"One of the contemporary security challenges at the international level is cyber security. It is being exploited by terrorist groups in this sphere. Iran warns that cyber terrorism will become one of the threats to everyone in the future, and cooperation of BRICS member countries and other countries is necessary to solve this problem," he noted.

Ahmadian noted that cooperation in the field of artificial intelligence can also become one of the suitable scope for cooperation between BRICS member countries and other countries.

To note, BRICS is an intergovernmental organization established in 2006. Russia assumed the BRICS chairmanship on January 1, 2024. At present, the members of the organization, in addition to Russia, are Brazil, India, China, South Africa, Egypt, Ethiopia, Iran, the UAE, and Saudi Arabia.
