BAKU, Azerbaijan, July 30. The Turkish Embassy in Azerbaijan has congratulated Azerbaijani judoka Hidayat Heydarov on his victory at the Olympics in Paris, TurkicWorld reports via the embassy's X publication.
"We heartily congratulate Hidayat Heydarov, who won a gold medal at the Paris 2024 Summer Olympics and raised the flag of Azerbaijan in France," the publication said.
To note, the day before Azerbaijani judoka Hidayat Heydarov became the winner of the Summer Olympics in Paris.
The Azerbaijani athlete, competing in the weight category up to 73 kg, won a gold medal, defeating Frenchman Jean-Benjamin Gaba in the final.
Hidayat Heydarov, who started the fight in the 1/8 finals, defeated Tohar Butbul (Israel) at this stage. In the 1/4 finals, he beat Arthur Margelidon (Canada), and in the semifinals - Akila Gjakova (Kosovo).
To note, Heydarov won the first Olympics of his career.
