Kyrgyzstan and China intend to develop cross-border trade

Kabar. Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Kyrgyz Republic Jeenbek Kulubaev, during a bilateral meeting with a member of the State Council, Foreign Minister of the People's Republic of China Qin Gang, based on the prospects for the growth of mutual trade, emphasized the feasibility of developing border trade, e-commerce and increasing the throughput capacity of the Torugart and Irkeshtam checkpoints.

According to the press service of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Kyrgyz Republic, Kulubaev noted the importance of accelerating the practical implementation of the China-Kyrgyzstan-Uzbekistan railway construction project, which will become an important link in the One Belt, One Road initiative.

In addition, the interest of the Kyrgyz side was expressed in the implementation of joint investment projects, as well as cooperation in the fields of agriculture, processing industry, textile and clothing industry, energy and banking.

The foreign minister also noted the need to accelerate the implementation of infrastructure grant projects that are of great socio-economic importance for Kyrgyzstan, and outlined the importance of creating favorable conditions for mutual trips of citizens between the two countries.

In turn, Qin Gang highly appreciated the development of the Kyrgyz-Chinese relations of strategic partnership.

“At the same time, in order to further intensify bilateral cooperation, it is important to implement a program of medium-term and long-term trade and economic development between Kyrgyzstan and China until 2030 and enhance the role of the intergovernmental Kyrgyz-Chinese commission on trade and economic cooperation,” he said.

The Chinese foreign minister also noted the importance of practical cooperation. In this vein, he welcomed the import of Kyrgyz agricultural products to China and supported the proposals of the Kyrgyz side to develop border trade, create infrastructure conditions and build logistics centers.

In conclusion, he dwelled on the issues of accelerating work on the China-Kyrgyzstan-Uzbekistan railway construction project and the implementation of infrastructure projects in Kyrgyzstan in the field of transport, healthcare, irrigation, etc.

Following the meeting, the sides exchanged views on cooperation within the SCO and the joint construction of the One Belt, One Road initiative, as well as important issues on the regional and global agendas.
