BISHKEK, Kyrgyzstan, November 4. Kyrgyzstan’s President Sadyr Japarov has invited the Asian Development Bank (ADB) to participate in the implementation of the Kambarata HPP-1 project, TurkicWorld reports.
The proposal was made during a meeting between Japarov and ADB Vice President Yingming Yang in Bishkek, Kyrgyzstan.
The President stated that the Kambarata HPP-1 project will not only satisfy domestic electricity needs but also open avenues for exports to neighboring countries. He underscored that the energy sector is a critical priority for Kyrgyzstan.
Additionally, Japarov expressed gratitude to the ADB for its support of the social housing program in Kyrgyzstan, referencing the approved "My Home – 2021-2026" initiative.
The President highlighted that recent years have focused on combating corruption and eliminating criminal influence, laying a solid foundation for further economic growth and sustainable development.
In turn, Yingming Yang affirmed the ADB's dedication to ongoing comprehensive support for Kyrgyzstan, especially in key sectors like hydropower, renewable energy, climate initiatives, and social programs that foster inclusive development.
To note, construction of the Kambarata HPP-1 is set to begin in 2025, with the first hydro unit expected to be commissioned in 2028. The preliminary cost of the project ranges from $4.5 billion to $5 billion, with a capacity of 1,860 MW. The Kambarata HPP-1 is anticipated to produce 5.6 billion kWh of electricity annually.
