Modern global challenges require unified efforts of int'l community - Kyrgyz president

BISHKEK, Kyrgyzstan, September 25. Current global challenges require the unified efforts of the international community, Kyrgyzstan’s President Sadyr Zhaparov said during the General Debate of the 79th session of the UN General Assembly in New York, TurkicWorld reports.

"Modern global challenges, such as the climate crisis, food security threats, and growing inequality, require united efforts from the international community," he stated.

According to Zhaparov, the world is facing unprecedented challenges, including a global climate catastrophe and economic inequality.

"And at this time, we see an alarming paradox: military expenditures are increasing annually all over the world, while poor and vulnerable nations continue to suffer from a lack of resources for their development and survival," he noted.

Zhaparov stressed the need to redirect funds currently allocated for war and destruction toward constructive efforts that address global challenges for all of humanity to help countries in their fight against climate change and to prevent mass displacement and global migration.

"World leaders have spoken for decades about the necessity of eradicating poverty, yet there has consistently been a lack of political will. Countries in Africa, South Asia, and Latin America continue to face chronic underfunding, inadequate support from the international community, and systemic economic crises that cannot be resolved by individual nations alone," he added.

The President also highlighted that nations at the bottom of the economic pyramid require investments in healthcare, education, infrastructure, and climate change mitigation.
