Anti-terrorist exercise of SCO member states may take place in China

Bishkek, Sept. 11, 2023. /Kabar/. A Kyrgyz delegation, led by Deputy Chairman of the State Committee of the National Security (SCNS) Aibek Shamenov took part in the 40th meeting of the Council of the Regional Anti-Terrorist Structure of the Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO RATS) under the chairmanship of Kazakhstan.

The meeting was held in the Kazakh capital city of Astana on Sept. 8, the press service of the SCNS of Kyrgyzstan said.

The event was attended by delegations of competent authorities of the SCO member states - the Republic of India, the Islamic Republic of Iran, Kazakhstan, the People's Republic of China, Kyrgyzstan, the Islamic Republic of Pakistan, Russia, Tajikistan, Uzbekistan, as well as the SCO RATS Executive Committee.

Representatives of the competent authorities of the Republic of Belarus and Mongolia attended the meeting as observer states to the SCO.

The participants discussed issues related to cooperation between the competent authorities of the Organization's member states in identifying and suppressing channels for financing terrorist activities, as well as countering illicit arms trafficking and preventing their acquisition and use for terrorist, separatist and extremist purposes.

A practical workshop and a joint anti-terrorist exercise of the competent authorities of the SCO member states to detect and suppress the use of the Internet for terrorist, separatist and extremist purposes is planned to be held in India.

Decisions were made to organize and hold a joint anti-terrorist exercise of the competent authorities of the SCO member states in 2024 on the territory of the People's Republic of China and to develop a joint cooperation program on countering extremist ideology in the SCO area.

An agreement was reached on holding the next meeting of the SCO RATS Council in Uzbekistan.
