Sadyr Zhaparov receives OSCE Secretary General Helga Maria Schmid

Bishkek, June 6, 2023. / Kabar /. President Sadyr Zhaparov received on Monday OSCE Secretary General Helga Maria Schmid, who is touring the countries of Central Asia.

An exchange of views took place on strengthening bilateral cooperation in all areas of mutual interest, as well as priorities for cooperation in the near future.

President Zhaparov, welcoming the OSCE Secretary General, thanked for the support provided to the country. In particular, in socio-economic development, strengthening of law enforcement, judicial and law enforcement agencies.

“Kyrgyzstan considers OSCE as an important multilateral platform for an equal and mutually respectful dialogue between the participating states on security and cooperation issues based on the principle of consensus,” Sadyr Zhaparov noted, highlighting with satisfaction the activities of the OSCE Program Office in Bishkek.

At the same time, the president considers it expedient to strengthen the OSCE project activities in Kyrgyzstan in such areas as strengthening border security, as well as continue to support the reform of law enforcement agencies and strengthen their capacity, develop e-commerce, and support entrepreneurship, especially in the regions of the country.

The head of state, recalling that this year marks the 50th anniversary of World Environment Day, dwelled in detail on the issues of sustainable development of mountain regions at the global level. In particular, Sadyr Zhaparov noted that in connection with the consequences of climate change, one of the main priorities of the country's economic policy is the promotion of the "green economy", the introduction of environmentally friendly technologies and environmental protection. Kyrgyzstan is interested in developing cooperation with international partners to promote "green initiatives".

Helga Maria Schmid, thanking President Sadyr Zhaparov for the warm hospitality, noted that Kyrgyzstan is a very important partner and member country of the Organization.

She highly appreciated the initiatives and efforts of the Kyrgyz Republic to protect mountainous countries, noting with satisfaction the Organization's accession to the UN mountain partnership.

The OSCE Secretary General reaffirmed the OSCE's interest in developing bilateral and regional cooperation with Kyrgyzstan and Central Asia.
