Kyrgyz Parliament speaker meets president of Belarus

Bishkek, May 18, 2023. / Kabar /. Speaker of the Jogorku Kenesh Nurlanbek Shakiev met today with President of the Republic of Belarus Alexander Lukashenko, the press service of the Kyrgyz Parliament reported.

The event, held at the Palace of Independence, was also attended by the chairmen of the parliaments of the member states of the Parliamentary Assembly of the Collective Security Treaty Organization.

During the meeting, the current state and development prospects of the Collective Security Treaty Organization (CSTO) were discussed, and the high role of parliaments in expanding cooperation was outlined.

Lukashenko shared his proposals for improving the work of the Parliamentary Assembly. Among them, he focused on the development of model laws in the field of defense and security.

Along with this, Alexander Lukashenko said that the participation of the Parliamentary Assembly mission as observers in the election campaigns held in the member states of the organization is of particular importance and added the need to build up socio-economic, cultural and humanitarian ties.

The Collective Security Treaty Organization members are Armenia, Kazakhstan, Russia, Belarus, Kyrgyzstan, and Tajikistan.
