On May 8, 2026, the Representative of the President of the Republic of Azerbaijan for Climate Issues, Mr. Mukhtar Babayev, visited the headquarters of the Turkic Culture and Heritage Foundation and met with the President of the organization, Professor Aktoty Raimkulova.
TurkicWorld reports that during the meeting, the parties discussed the protection of cultural heritage in the context of global climate change, raising environmental awareness, as well as opportunities for joint cooperation among the Turkic world in this field.
During the meeting, Mrs. Aktoty Raimkulova spoke about the projects implemented by the Foundation aimed at promoting and preserving the rich tangible and intangible values of the Turkic peoples. She emphasized that harmony with the environment is an integral part of Turkic culture and noted that hosting such a prestigious event as COP29 in Baku carries historic significance for the entire region.
The parties also specifically addressed the outcomes of the Regional Environmental Summit (RES 2026) held in Astana. Mr. Aktoty Raimkulova noted that RES 2026 had become an important platform for dialogue among countries around the world, including Turkic states, on issues of environmental security and biodiversity conservation.
Mr. Mukhtar Babayev stated that climate change is currently one of the most serious challenges facing humanity and directly affects the sustainability of cultural and environmental heritage. He stressed that combating climate change is not only a technological issue, but also a matter of values. In this regard, the importance of integrating the rich heritage of the Turkic peoples, reflecting a respectful attitude toward nature, into the international climate agenda was highlighted.
At the conclusion of the meeting, the parties exchanged views on matters of mutual interest.
