BAKU, Azerbaijan, September 30. TotalEnergies has commenced commercial operations at two large-scale solar farms, Danish Fields and Cottonwood, in southeast Texas, TurkicWorld reports.
According to the producer, these projects, with a combined capacity of 1.2 GW, are part of a broader renewable portfolio totaling 4 GW across the state.
Danish Fields, the company’s largest U.S. solar farm, boasts a 720 MWp capacity and includes 1.4 million photovoltaic panels. The site also features a 225 MWh battery storage system provided by Saft, a TotalEnergies subsidiary. Approximately 70% of the farm's capacity has been contracted through long-term Corporate Power Purchase Agreements (CPPAs) with companies like Saint-Gobain, while the remaining 30% will power TotalEnergies’ industrial operations in the U.S. Gulf Coast region.
Cottonwood, with a capacity of 455 MWp and 847,000 solar panels, is set to begin full operations in 2025. It will also feature a 225 MWh battery storage system. The electricity generated will support companies like LyondellBasell and Saint-Gobain in their decarbonization efforts through long-term PPAs.
"These projects highlight TotalEnergies’ commitment to providing renewable electricity to support our clients’ decarbonization goals as well as our own," said Olivier Jouny, Senior Vice President of Renewables at TotalEnergies.
