Deputy energy minister unveils Azerbaijan's potential for green energy exports by 2030

BAKU, Azerbaijan, September 18. Azerbaijan will have a possible potential of 7 GW of "green" energy by 2030 for transmission to the country's energy grid and export of "green" energy, Deputy Energy Minister Orkhan Zeynalov said during the 12th Caspian Energy Forum in Baku, TurkicWorld reports.

Of this volume of "green" energy, the country's power grid will be ready to accept 2 GW.

"Out of the mentioned volume, 4 GW are intended for export of green energy to the EU. We also notice the export of 1 GW from the Nakhchivan Autonomous Republic through Türkiye to the EU," Zeynalov said.

According to him, by 2030 the share of renewable energy sources in the total energy balance of Azerbaijan may reach 35 percent.

To note, Azerbaijan is pursuing a purposeful state policy in the direction of effective utilization of the country's green energy potential. Expanding the use of renewable energy sources has been put forward as a priority task of the country.

Based on studies, the technical potential of Azerbaijan's renewable energy sources is 135 GW onshore and 157 GW offshore.
