BAKU, Azerbaijan, August 28. The level of the Caspian Sea may drop by six meters by the end of the century, the Deputy Head of the Environmental Policy Department of the Ministry of Ecology and Natural Resources of Azerbaijan Rafig Verdiyev told TurkicWorld
He noted that the level of rivers flowing into the Caspian Sea has decreased over the past 30 years.
"Moreover, precipitation is decreasing, evaporation is increasing, which will lead to a decline in the level of the Caspian Sea. There was a project envisioned in 1979 to bring northern rivers into the sea due to the lowering of the Caspian Sea level. However, the level of the Caspian Sea rose. Therefore, the project was postponed. The ongoing processes may bring this project up to date again," Verdiyev added.
