BAKU, Azerbaijan, October 15. An oil tanker is on fire in the eastern part of the Strait of Hormuz following what Iran’s navy described as a violation of a restricted maritime area, Iranian state television has reported.
According to the Islamic Republic of Iran Broadcasting (IRIB), the navy said the tanker had attempted to cross a prohibited area in the Sea of Oman after switching off its tracking systems.
“This offending tanker attempted to cross the prohibited area in the Sea of Oman by turning off its tracking systems,” the navy said, according to IRIB.
The report did not provide further details about the vessel, the cause of the fire or whether there were any casualties.
