BAKU, Azerbaijan, September 30. Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps spokesperson Hossein Mohebbi has said that military confrontations are taking place in the Strait of Hormuz on a daily basis, claiming that Iranian forces have been targeting small vessels and preventing them from passing through the strategic waterway.
“We have been hitting small ships and preventing them from passing for a long time, but America does not respond,” Mohebbi said in an interview with Iran’s semi-official Fars news agency.
His comments come as Iran’s senior leadership considers a US proposal conveyed through Qatar in response to Tehran’s offer to reopen the Strait of Hormuz in exchange for an end to Washington’s economic pressure.
The strategic waterway remains at the centre of negotiations and international concern because of its importance to global energy shipments and maritime trade.
The United Kingdom Maritime Trade Operations agency reported that at least three commercial vessels were targeted in the Strait of Hormuz on Tuesday.
The latest developments come amid continued tensions in the region and diplomatic efforts to address the situation surrounding the waterway.
