Iran Inflation Abdolnaser Hemmati Central Bank of Iran Iranian economy

Iran’s inflation rate falls slightly in September, central bank governor says

BAKU, Azerbaijan, September 26. Iran’s point-to-point inflation rate fell slightly in September, according to Central Bank Governor Abdolnaser Hemmati, marking the first decline in the indicator in 15 months.

Hemmati said the point-to-point inflation rate decreased from 84.4 percent in August to 83.8 percent in September, according to Iran’s semi-official Tasnim news agency.

Although the decline was relatively small, Hemmati said the shift was significant because it indicated that the inflation trend had begun to move downward.

The latest statement comes as Iran continues to face severe economic pressure amid the conflict, international sanctions and restrictions affecting trade and energy exports. Recent reporting has shown that inflation and the cost of living remain major pressures on Iranian households.

Iran’s economy has also been affected by disruptions to production, trade and access to foreign currency. The rial has weakened sharply this year, while food prices have risen particularly rapidly.
The Iranian government has also faced pressure over fuel subsidies and recently increased petrol prices for higher levels of consumption, as it seeks to manage declining revenues and economic pressures.
