BAKU, Azerbaijan, September 25. US President Donald Trump has told Chinese President Xi Jinping that any Chinese assistance to Iran would be “unacceptable”, according to US Ambassador to China David Perdue.
Speaking to CNBC, Perdue said Washington had made its position clear to Beijing weeks earlier, warning against any direct or indirect support for Iran, including intelligence sharing, military equipment or related components.
The ambassador said the United States believes there has been some indirect support for Iran but added that Washington has no direct evidence confirming such assistance.
“We’re very concerned about this indirect work, and we made it clear,” Perdue said, adding that Trump had clearly outlined US interests regarding Iran.
The comments come amid tensions over Iran and the Strait of Hormuz, a key maritime route for global energy shipments. Washington has expressed concerns over regional developments and the involvement of external actors.
Perdue’s remarks followed Trump’s statement that he had a “very productive meeting” with Chinese President Xi Jinping, saying that “tremendous things will be happening” without providing further details.
