BAKU, Azerbaijan, September 24. Iran will continue to “fully manage and control” the Strait of Hormuz, according to Major General Yahya Rahim Safavi, an adviser to Iran’s Supreme Leader Mojtaba Khamenei.
In a video released by Iranian news agencies Fars and Tasnim, Safavi said the Strait of Hormuz would not return to its previous situation and that Iran would maintain its role in managing the strategic waterway.
Safavi also claimed that Iran and Oman had reached an agreement on a mechanism for managing the Strait of Hormuz, but said the United States had prevented its implementation.
The Iranian military adviser said Tehran’s strategic approach of linking the Gulf region with the Red Sea, as well as connecting the Strait of Hormuz with the Bab el-Mandeb Strait, could change the dynamics of the regional security situation.
Commenting on Yemen’s Houthi movement, Safavi said the group has its own objectives and strategy and has made progress in developing weapons capabilities.
Earlier, Safavi warned that a new military confrontation involving Iran could expand beyond the region, potentially reaching areas including the Indian Ocean, if the United States or Israel carried out further attacks against Iran.
