BAKU, Azerbaijan, September 21. Major-General Amir Hatami, commander of Iran’s army, says the country’s armed forces are “fully prepared, vigilant, and ready” to face any renewed attack by the United States or Israel.
According to Iranian official media, Hatami said Iran’s forces would not hesitate to defend the country’s independence, security and territorial integrity. He also said the military had previously defended Iran’s existence in the face of what he described as “enemy aggression.”
The comments come amid growing concerns across the Middle East that the United States could launch new military strikes against Iran, as the nearly seven-month conflict remains at a stalemate.
US President Donald Trump said on Sunday that he was in a “deciding mode” regarding Iran, adding that possible options included “wiping it out,” imposing economic pressure or reaching a peace agreement.
Trump also said he would be open to meeting Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian on the sidelines of the United Nations General Assembly in New York this week.
