BAKU, Azerbaijan, September 14. Pakistan and Lebanon have signed a memorandum of understanding on the transfer of convicted citizens, while agreeing to further strengthen bilateral cooperation, particularly in internal affairs and security.
Lebanese Minister of Interior and Municipalities Ahmad Al-Hajjar met Pakistani Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif to discuss bilateral relations and opportunities for expanding cooperation between the two countries.
The meeting was also attended by Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Ishaq Dar, Interior Minister Mohsin Raza Naqvi, Housing Minister Riaz Hussain Pirzada and Minister of State for Interior Talal Chaudhry.
Welcoming Al-Hajjar, Sharif highlighted the long-standing fraternal ties between Pakistan and Lebanon and conveyed his best wishes to the Lebanese leadership. Both sides expressed satisfaction with the growing cooperation in internal affairs and security.
During the talks, Sharif strongly condemned what he described as Israeli aggression against Lebanon and expressed sympathy over the loss of life and damage to property caused by the attacks.
The Pakistani prime minister reiterated the solidarity of his government and the Pakistani people with Lebanon, assuring the Lebanese leadership of Islamabad’s support for Lebanon’s sovereignty and territorial integrity.
Al-Hajjar thanked Sharif for the warm welcome and reaffirmed Lebanon’s commitment to further developing bilateral cooperation with Pakistan.
Following the meeting, Sharif attended the signing ceremony of a memorandum of understanding between Pakistan and Lebanon concerning the transfer of convicted citizens.
The MoU, signed by the interior ministers of the two countries, establishes a legal framework under which convicted citizens may serve the remainder of their prison sentences in their respective home countries.
