EU says it will continue cooperation with US and G7 to maintain pressure on Iran

BAKU, Azerbaijan, August 31. The European Union says it will continue working closely with the United States and other G7 countries to maintain pressure on Iran.

In a statement published on its official website, the EU reiterated that Tehran must take steps to curb its nuclear programme, ballistic missile programme and what it described as destabilising activities.

The bloc also accused Iran of providing military support to Russia in the war in Ukraine and criticised what it called repression against the Iranian people.

The EU said it remains prepared to take further measures if necessary to protect its security and interests.

It specifically highlighted the importance of ensuring freedom of navigation in the Strait of Hormuz, a key international energy route.

The statement comes amid continued tensions between Iran and Western countries over nuclear activities, regional security issues and economic sanctions.

The EU stressed that coordination with Washington and G7 partners remains an important element of its policy towards Tehran.
