BAKU, Azerbaijan, August 31. US President Donald Trump has warned that Washington will respond to any Iranian attacks targeting American forces in Jordan.
Speaking to Fox News, Trump said Iranian missiles launched toward Jordan the previous night were intercepted, except for one projectile that was assessed as not posing a threat.
Trump also repeated his claim that Iran is seeking a deal with the United States.
The comments came after Iran targeted an air base in Jordan on Sunday night, which Tehran said was a response to US strikes on Larakh Island.
The incident marked the first direct clashes between Iran and the United States in several weeks.
Tensions between Washington and Tehran have continued to rise amid military confrontations, economic pressure and diplomatic efforts aimed at reaching a possible agreement.
Trump said the US would take action if Iranian forces continued to target American personnel or facilities in the region.
