BAKU, Azerbaijan, August 29. Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi has accused elements within the US government of using media outlets to influence global energy prices for personal gain.
Araghchi said Iranian intelligence indicated that “major efforts” were under way to manipulate energy markets amid the continuing conflict and economic confrontation between Tehran and Washington.
In a post on X, the Iranian foreign minister alleged that some US government figures were using what he described as “gullible media” to influence prices for personal benefit and to keep US President Donald Trump involved in what Araghchi characterised as a losing war.
He also accused actors aligned with Israel of encouraging the continuation of the conflict by promoting overly optimistic assessments of the war.
Araghchi argued that ordinary Americans were ultimately bearing the economic consequences of these policies, saying US consumers were feeling the “real bottom line”.
His comments come amid significant volatility in global energy markets caused by the conflict involving Iran and continuing tensions surrounding the Strait of Hormuz.
The waterway has traditionally carried about 20 percent of global oil and liquefied natural gas shipments, making developments there particularly important for international energy prices.
Araghchi’s allegations against US officials and Israel-aligned actors have not been independently substantiated in the reports reviewed.
