Qatar reiterates support for diplomatic efforts despite US sanctions on Iran

BAKU, Azerbaijan, August 25. Qatar has reaffirmed its support for mediation and diplomatic efforts aimed at resolving the crisis involving Iran, despite the United States imposing sanctions on Tehran.

A spokesperson for Qatar’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs said the US sanctions against Iran are unilateral, while stressing that Doha remains committed to diplomatic efforts to address the crisis.

The Qatari official indicated that the latest economic measures imposed by Washington would not change Doha’s support for mediation.

Qatar has positioned diplomacy and dialogue as central to its approach to regional disputes, including tensions involving Iran and the United States.

The statement comes as Washington intensifies economic pressure on Tehran and warns countries and companies against maintaining certain financial and commercial ties with Iran.

At the same time, diplomatic efforts are continuing to find a pathway towards de-escalation and a possible resumption of negotiations.

Qatar’s latest remarks signal that Doha intends to maintain its mediating role despite growing economic and political pressure surrounding Iran.

Further details are expected following the Qatari Foreign Ministry spokesperson’s press briefing.
