Ghalibaf criticises US attempts to ‘squeeze Iran harder’ for concessions

BAKU, Azerbaijan, August 18. Iranian Parliament Speaker and chief negotiator Mohammad Bagher Ghalibaf has criticised the United States over what he described as attempts to increase pressure on Tehran to extract additional concessions.

In a post on X, Ghalibaf argued that Washington was mistaken in believing that putting greater pressure on Iran would force Tehran to accept concessions that were not included in the agreement.

“Americans think squeezing Iran harder will win concessions that were never part of the agreement,” Ghalibaf said.

He also sharply criticised US Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent and US War Secretary Pete Hegseth, questioning their ability to manage the situation.

“Bessent and Hegseth are way out of their league. Stop waiting for the clown crew to pull a rabbit out of their hat and clean up the mess you made,” Ghalibaf said.

The remarks reflect continued tensions between Tehran and Washington over the interpretation and implementation of their agreements, as well as the conditions surrounding further negotiations.

Ghalibaf’s comments also signal Tehran’s rejection of attempts to secure additional concessions through increased US pressure.
