Iranian foreign minister says US is now ‘begging’ for talks on Tehran’s terms

BAKU, Azerbaijan, August 18. Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi has said that the United States is now seeking negotiations with Tehran under conditions set by Iran, while insisting that his country will not surrender.

According to Araghchi, Washington’s objective during the war was to force Iran into surrender, but that effort failed. “We will not surrender,” he said, claiming that the United States is now asking to negotiate according to Iran’s conditions.

The Iranian foreign minister also referred to a memorandum of understanding reached with the United States. He claimed that the document contained 13 provisions favourable to Iran and only one favourable to the US.

Araghchi accused Israel of attempting to undermine the memorandum and prevent its implementation. He argued that Israel had used all available means to sabotage the arrangement.

“We won the war, and we also won in diplomacy, and we forced the enemy to accept our conditions,” Araghchi said.

He added that Iran’s military and battlefield capabilities had strengthened Tehran’s position at the negotiating table, arguing that military power provided leverage for Iranian diplomacy.
