BAKU, Azerbaijan, August 10. Japanese Prime Minister Sanae Takaichi has called for the restoration of free and safe navigation through the Strait of Hormuz during a telephone conversation with Oman’s Sultan Haitham bin Tariq Al Said.
According to Kyodo News, Takaichi told reporters that the Omani sultan responded that Muscat would consult with countries using the strategic waterway and respect their views.
Oman and Iran are currently holding talks over arrangements for maritime traffic through the Strait of Hormuz, one of the world’s most important energy routes.
During the conversation, the two leaders exchanged views on regional developments. Takaichi expressed appreciation for Oman’s efforts to promote dialogue, reduce tensions and contribute to international peace and security.
The leaders also discussed ways to expand cooperation in various fields and strengthen bilateral relations based on shared interests.
The phone call comes as negotiations over the future of navigation through the strait remain unresolved, with broader talks between the United States and Iran reportedly facing difficulties.
