Qatar condemns Iranian attack on UAE tanker in Strait of Hormuz

BAKU, Azerbaijan, August 8. Qatar has condemned an Iranian missile attack targeting an Emirati tanker affiliated with the Abu Dhabi National Oil Company (ADNOC) while it was transiting the Strait of Hormuz.

In a statement, Qatar's Ministry of Foreign Affairs described the attack as a "flagrant violation" of international law and freedom of maritime navigation.

The ministry also rejected what it described as Iran's use of the strategic waterway as a "bargaining chip", calling for the Strait of Hormuz to be reopened without conditions.

Qatar warned that continued restrictions on navigation through the strait threaten the "vital interests" of countries in the region, as well as the stability of the global economy.

The statement comes amid heightened concerns over maritime security and disruptions to commercial and energy shipping through the waterway.
