BAKU, Azerbaijan, August 6. Uzbekistan's Uzatom Agency and Hungary's state-owned MVM EGI Zrt. advanced negotiations on deploying dry cooling technology at Uzbekistan's planned nuclear power plant, with the sides also discussing greater localization of equipment manufacturing.
This was reflected in the statement by the Uzatom.
The issues were reviewed during a working meeting between Uzatom officials and a delegation from MVM EGI Zrt., led by Chief Executive Officer Péter Kárpáti.
The parties discussed the next stage of engineering work for the project, focusing on the integration of dry cooling systems designed to reduce water consumption while improving the plant's environmental performance.
"MVM EGI highly values the open dialogue with Uzatom and remains committed to further cooperation on modern technological solutions that support the sustainable development of Uzbekistan's nuclear energy sector," Kárpáti said, according to Uzatom.
A key topic of the talks was increasing the localization of production by manufacturing components for the cooling systems in Uzbekistan. The sides also reviewed progress toward concluding contract negotiations for the dry cooling project and discussed moving to the implementation phase.
According to Uzatom, the project aligns with Uzbekistan's national strategy for conserving water resources by introducing technologies adapted to the country's climate and environmental conditions.
The discussions form part of a two-day working visit by the Hungarian delegation, during which the sides are expected to hold a series of technical meetings to review the engineering specifications of the dry cooling systems and finalize technical solutions before project implementation.
Uzatom noted that cooperation with MVM EGI is based on a memorandum of understanding covering the deployment of dry cooling technologies, localization of manufacturing, workforce training and the application of advanced technologies for both large and small nuclear power plants in Uzbekistan.
