BAKU, Azerbaijan, August 5. Iran's Foreign Ministry says a recent understanding with Oman on shipping routes through the Strait of Hormuz does not, by itself, guarantee safe navigation, warning that U.S. military activities in the region could still undermine security.
Foreign Ministry spokesman Esmaeil Baghaei said that while Tehran and Muscat had reached an understanding on maritime transit arrangements, several factors affecting security in the strategic waterway remain unresolved.
According to comments published on the Iranian Foreign Ministry's Telegram channel, Baghaei pointed to the U.S.-declared naval blockade against Iran and what he described as other "aggressive and threatening actions" directed at Iran and its interests.
He said these issues could continue to affect the security environment in the Strait of Hormuz despite ongoing diplomatic efforts.
The remarks come as Iran, Oman and the United States continue discussions aimed at facilitating commercial shipping through one of the world's most important energy transit routes.
