BAKU, Azerbaijan, August 4. U.S. Secretary of State Marco Rubio says Washington has made progress in negotiations with Iran aimed at restoring commercial shipping through the Strait of Hormuz, but stressed that no final agreement has yet been reached.
Speaking to reporters at the U.S. Department of State, Rubio said discussions were moving forward.
“There’s been progress made in those talks, but not finality yet. We’re hoping that will happen very shortly,” he said.
Rubio's remarks come amid ongoing diplomatic efforts to ease tensions surrounding the strategic waterway, a key route for global energy shipments.
The United States and Iran have been engaged in indirect negotiations in recent weeks over maritime security and freedom of navigation in the Strait of Hormuz.
Iran has not immediately commented on Rubio's latest statement.
