BAKU, Azerbaijan, August 1. Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian has said the future of Iran will be determined by the Iranian people, praising citizens for what he described as their resilience during the conflict involving the United States and Israel.
In a statement posted on X, Pezeshkian referred to the Iranian people as "heroes" for enduring what he described as years of war, pressure and continued hostilities.
The president linked the beginning of the current period of confrontation to the assassination of Hamas political leader Ismail Haniyeh on July 31, 2024, in Tehran, where Haniyeh had travelled to attend Pezeshkian's inauguration ceremony.
Despite what he described as sustained external pressure, Pezeshkian said:
"The future of Iran will be shaped by the people of Iran."
His remarks come amid continued tensions involving Iran, Israel and the United States.
