BAKU, Azerbaijan, July 30. The United States on Thursday announced a new round of sanctions targeting international networks accused of supporting Iran's Mahan Air, an airline Washington says has transported personnel from the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC), as well as weapons and drones.
In a statement, the U.S. Department of the Treasury said it had designated six entities and individuals based in China, India, Russia and Iran.
According to the Treasury, those sanctioned include companies acting as sales agents for Mahan Air, which is already subject to U.S. and European Union sanctions.
The department also imposed sanctions on what it described as a front company linked to the IRGC, alleging that it supported Iran's military targeting operations during the conflict.
The Treasury said the measures are intended to further disrupt networks that it says facilitate Iran's regional activities.
The announcement came amid heightened regional tensions following reports of a drone strike involving gas vessels at Egypt's Mediterranean port of Damietta, an incident that has raised concerns over the security of maritime navigation through the Suez Canal, a key global shipping route.
Iran has previously rejected U.S. sanctions and accusations against Mahan Air, describing such measures as unlawful and politically motivated.
