BAKU, Azerbaijan, July 29.The administration of US President Donald Trump has announced a new round of sanctions targeting eight oil tankers and 10 entities linked to Iran, according to a notice published by the US Treasury Department.
The latest measures are part of Washington's ongoing "maximum pressure" campaign aimed at restricting Iran's oil exports and disrupting what US officials describe as Tehran's "shadow fleet" used to transport crude oil.
According to the Treasury Department, the sanctions are intended to reduce revenue that the United States says finances Iran's weapons programs and regional allied groups.
The announcement comes amid heightened tensions in the Middle East, where the United States and Iran have recently exchanged military strikes.
The sanctions also coincide with continued disruption to global energy supplies as shipping through the Strait of Hormuz remains severely affected.
Iran has consistently criticized US sanctions, describing them as unlawful and harmful to its economy.
