BAKU, Azerbaijan, July 28. Foreign ministers of the Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) held a video conference to discuss ongoing negotiations between the United States and Iran, with a particular focus on maritime security in the Strait of Hormuz.
According to a statement from Oman's Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the ministers emphasized the need to strengthen coordination to ensure freedom of navigation and maritime safety in the strategic waterway.
The statement said participants stressed "the importance of intensifying coordination regarding freedom of navigation and its safety in the Strait of Hormuz."
The ministers also underscored the need to prioritize political and diplomatic solutions aimed at enhancing regional security and stability.
The virtual meeting took place as diplomatic contacts between Washington and Tehran continue amid efforts to reach a new agreement.
The Strait of Hormuz remains one of the world's most strategically important maritime routes, carrying a significant share of global oil and liquefied natural gas exports.
