BAKU, Azerbaijan, July 27. US President Donald Trump says the United States is currently engaged in talks with Iran, claiming Tehran sought a meeting through both intermediaries and direct channels.
Speaking to reporters, Trump said, "We're talking with Iran right now," adding that the discussions have been constructive.
"We are having good talks," the US president said, expressing optimism that diplomacy could produce positive results.
Trump also stated that "good things can happen" if the current contacts continue.
According to the president, Iran requested the meeting after coming under sustained military pressure from the United States.
"They would not have requested the meeting if we were doing poorly. The only reason they want to meet is because we've been hitting them very hard," Trump said.
Iranian officials have not publicly confirmed Trump's remarks regarding the request for a meeting or the status of the reported talks.
