BAKU, Azerbaijan, July 24. China's Minister of Public Security Wang Xiaohong and FBI Director Kash Patel have agreed to strengthen law enforcement cooperation between the two countries following high-level talks in Beijing, Chinese authorities said on Friday.
According to an official Chinese statement, the meeting focused on expanding practical cooperation against a wide range of transnational crimes while promoting dialogue based on mutual respect.
Wang said both sides should engage in "more constructive dialogue" and deepen collaboration in combating criminal activities, including narcotics trafficking, cybercrime, telecom fraud, money laundering, illegal immigration and fugitive investigations.
The meeting came shortly after two recent fugitive repatriation cases involving China and the United States, despite the absence of a bilateral extradition treaty.
On Thursday, China's Ministry of Public Security announced that it had transferred to US authorities an American fugitive wanted for serious violent crimes, including the alleged murder of a spouse and the sexual assault of a minor.
The ministry also said Chinese and US law enforcement agencies have recently conducted a series of practical joint operations covering anti-drug efforts, the repatriation of illegal immigrants, fugitive recovery, combating telecom and cyber fraud, and anti-money laundering.
According to the ministry, the growing cooperation reflects the consensus reached between US President Donald Trump and Chinese President Xi Jinping to expand collaboration in areas of mutual concern despite broader strategic differences.
