BAKU, Azerbaijan, July 22. US Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent met with Pakistan’s Finance Minister Muhammad Aurangzeb on Tuesday to discuss the country’s economic reforms and plans to return to international capital markets.
In a statement on Wednesday, the Treasury emphasized that Bessent welcomed Pakistan’s progress in restoring macroeconomic stability and advancing fiscal consolidation. He also highlighted the importance of continued reforms, strengthening economic resilience, promoting growth, and achieving greater self-reliance.
“Secretary Bessent expressed support for Pakistan’s efforts to build greater economic self-reliance and commended the government’s commitment to creating the conditions for a successful return to international capital markets,” the statement said.
