BAKU, Azerbaijan, July 17, German Chancellor Olaf Scholz Merz and French President Emmanuel Macron called on Iran to de-escalate tensions and return to talks with the United States in a joint statement issued following a defense and security council meeting.
“We urge Iran to refrain from endangering further negotiations through military escalations or activities,” the statement read.
The leaders also emphasized the urgent need to reopen the Strait of Hormuz, highlighting the importance of maintaining regional stability and safe international navigation.
