BAKU, Azerbaijan, July 17, The United Kingdom has officially designated the Iranian Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) and another Iran-linked group, the Islamic Movement of Companions of the Right (IMCR), as threats to national security. This effectively makes supporting them illegal.
According to a government statement, “It is now a criminal offence to express support for these bodies – meaning anyone who glorifies or encourages their activity which threatens the safety of the UK can be prosecuted. It is also now a criminal offence to assist or to accept or obtain a material benefit, such as payment, from any of these bodies.”
Individuals found guilty of these offenses could face up to 14 years in prison.
The British government also designated Russia’s GRU Volunteer Corps under the National Security (State Threats) Act 2026, alongside the Iranian groups, following parliamentary approval of an order introduced by the Home Secretary.
