Bangladesh Floods Monsoon rains Landslides Chattogram Cox’s Bazar

Floods in Bangladesh kill 44, leave over a million stranded

BAKU, Azerbaijan, July 11. Severe floods and landslides caused by days of torrential monsoon rains have killed at least 44 people in southeastern Bangladesh and left over one million residents stranded, officials said Saturday.

The disaster management ministry reported that flooding across seven districts — Chattogram, Cox’s Bazar, Bandarban, Rangamati, Khagrachhari, Moulvibazar, and Habiganj — has disrupted daily life, isolated thousands of families, and left 267,918 households stranded.

Many residents have been unable to cook for days as floodwaters submerged their homes, while others are struggling with mud covering kitchens and living spaces. Nurul Islam, a resident of Chattogram, said: “There is still water inside our home and we have no way to cook. The dry food we had has run out, and we spend the nights in the dark with our children because there is no electricity.”

Thousands of families are relying on emergency relief, including dry food such as flattened rice, puffed rice, and biscuits. Washed-out roads and damaged bridges have made it difficult for aid workers to reach the hardest-hit communities.

Authorities continue to work to deliver aid to affected residents, but the ongoing monsoon rains are complicating relief efforts.
