Iran reports $300 million in damage to research infrastructure amid conflict

BAKU, Azerbaijan, July 11, Hossein Afshin, Iran’s deputy for science, technology and knowledge-based economy, said the country’s research infrastructure has suffered approximately $300 million in damage due to the ongoing conflict.

“We were working on emerging technologies in the country that had no military application, and the enemy had targeted Iran’s scientific and technological authority, which will be rebuilt with strength,” Afshin said, according to IRNA.

He added that Iran aims to become a global leader in science and technology, stressing that countries investing in research and innovation will achieve success.

The remarks highlight concerns about the impact of regional hostilities on civilian scientific infrastructure and Iran’s efforts to rebuild and strengthen its research capabilities.
