Iran NATO United States Donald Trump Strait of Hormuz blockade

Trump says US may reimpose blockade on Iran

BAKU, Azerbaijan, July 8, US President Donald Trump has said Washington may reimpose a blockade targeting Iran amid heightened tensions in the Strait of Hormuz.

“We may put down the blockade, and it’ll only be a blockade for Iran,” Trump told reporters.

He said other countries would still be able to carry out normal maritime activity, adding that the restrictions would be aimed specifically at Tehran.

Trump also claimed Iran could attempt to deploy mines in the waterway, but said the US is now targeting Iranian small boats.

“They’ll drop some mines if they can, but it’s hard because we’re taking out those little boats now,” Trump said.

The US president added that NATO allies would send minesweepers to the Strait of Hormuz to support maritime security operations.
