Iran military chief vows to "avenge" slain former Supreme Leader

BAKU, Azerbaijan, July 3. Iran's Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces, Major General Amir Hatami, has vowed that Tehran will seek revenge against the United States and Israel over the killing of former Supreme Leader Ali Khamenei.

Hatami made the remarks on the sidelines of funeral ceremonies for Khamenei in Tehran, where senior officials, military commanders and mourners gathered to pay their respects.

Speaking during the event, Hatami declared that Iran would continue to confront what he described as its enemies and said the country remained determined to respond to Khamenei's killing.

"With a firmer resolve, we declare to the enemies of the Iranian nation – America and the criminal Zionist regime – that we will avenge the blood of the martyred leader," Hatami said.

The statement comes amid heightened regional tensions following the recent conflict involving Iran, the United States and Israel, while diplomatic efforts to preserve the ceasefire continue.
