Iran Switzerland USA Donald Trump Diplomacy Ali Bahreini

Iran says Trump’s threats jeopardised Switzerland talks

BAKU, Azerbaijan, June 23. Iran’s ambassador to the United Nations in Geneva, Ali Bahreini, has said that recent statements by US President Donald Trump put ongoing Iran–US negotiations in Switzerland at serious risk.

TurkicWorld reports that according to remarks cited by Reuters, Bahreini said Trump’s comments during the talks created a destabilising effect on the diplomatic process. Shortly after negotiations began, Trump posted on Truth Social urging Iran to halt support for its regional allies, particularly Hezbollah in Lebanon, warning of potential military action if demands were not met.

Despite the tensions, Bahreini said Iran remains willing to continue negotiations as long as Washington demonstrates a constructive approach. He added that the parties are still working to reach agreement on all clauses of the memorandum of understanding before moving on to more complex issues, including the nuclear file.

The comments highlight the fragile nature of the talks, which continue alongside heightened regional tensions in Lebanon and broader uncertainty over implementation of the US–Iran understanding.
