Christian Lebanese politician calls on Iran to end its ‘proxy’ project in Lebanon

BAKU, Azerbaijan, June 6. Lebanese politician Samir Geagea has said that President Joseph Aoun’s rejection of Iran using Lebanon as a bargaining card in negotiations with the United States reflects a clear determination to end what he described as the country's long-standing political abnormality.

TurkicWorld reports that in a post on X, Geagea, leader of the Lebanese Forces party, said President Aoun’s stance aligns with that of Prime Minister Nawaf Salam, who has repeatedly opposed foreign interference and called for strengthening state authority across Lebanon.

Geagea stressed that there is no dispute between the Lebanese and Iranian peoples, but accused the Iranian leadership of using Lebanon as part of its regional strategy by supporting and arming a military proxy inside the country.

He urged Iran to permanently stop interfering in Lebanese affairs and called on Hezbollah to hand over its weapons and dismantle its military structure.
