BAKU, Azerbaijan, May 30. US Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth has said that talks between the United States and Iran are moving in a positive direction, describing recent discussions as "productive".
TurkicWorld reports.that speaking to reporters in Singapore, Hegseth said Washington believes it is currently in a strong position to secure an agreement with Iran aimed at ending the conflict and reducing regional tensions.
"We're in a good place," Hegseth said, adding that diplomatic engagement between the two sides has continued to make progress.
However, he stressed that President Donald Trump would not rush into any agreement and would only approve a deal that meets US strategic objectives.
"Any deal that the president is willing to make, he's only going to make it if he believes it's a great deal for our country and the security of the world," Hegseth told reporters.
The defense secretary also indicated that Tehran is fully aware of the conditions necessary for reaching a final agreement.
"Iran knows what it needs to do," he said.
His comments come as diplomatic efforts continue amid broader discussions over regional security, sanctions and long-term stability in the Middle East.
