Strait of Hormuz Tensions Escalate as Iran Issues Strong Warning

BAKU, Azerbaijan, May 10. Iran’s Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) has warned that any attack on Iranian oil tankers or commercial vessels would trigger retaliatory strikes against US targets and hostile ships in the region, TurkicWorld reports.

“Any aggression against Iranian oil tankers and commercial vessels will be met with a heavy attack against one of the American centers in the region and enemy ships,” the IRGC Navy command said in a statement carried by Iranian media.

The warning comes as tensions continue to rise in the Gulf region following recent military confrontations involving Iran, the United States and Israel.

Majid Mousavi, commander of the IRGC Aerospace Force, said Iranian missiles and drones are “locked onto the enemy” and ready for deployment if ordered.

Meanwhile, the United Kingdom announced it is sending the Royal Navy destroyer HMS Dragon to the Middle East ahead of a possible multinational mission aimed at protecting commercial shipping in the Strait of Hormuz.

According to the UK Defense Ministry, the Type 45 warship will be positioned in the region and could join a joint British and French maritime security initiative.
