BAKU, Azerbaijan, August 27. The Pacific Island countries are facing threats caused by rising sea levels, the Secretary-General of the United Nations (UN), António Guterres said,TurkicWorld reports.
According to information, Guterres spoke about the consequences of rising ocean and sea water levels at the 53rd Pacific Islands Forum in the Kingdom of Tonga.
Stating that rising ocean levels associated with climate change pose a serious threat to Pacific Island countries, Guterres mentioned that carbon emissions from fossil fuels are accelerating the rise in water levels.
Guterres also emphasized that major companies and developed countries must comply with climate agreements and significantly increase funding to countries affected by climate change.
