BAKU, Azerbaijan, July 11. Bulgaria is taking steps to develop the Middle Corridor through the planned resumption of ferry service with Georgia on the Black Sea, TurkicWorld reports.
"Representatives of Bulgarian Railways (BDZ), Bulgarian maritime company P.N.A Ltd, and Georgian Railways signed an agreement in Tbilisi on the restoration of ferry service on the Black Sea," Bulgarian media reports.
Both the ferry and railway connections between Bulgaria and Georgia are like the glue that holds together the logistics of goods transported on the Black Sea. The revival of ferry service is also crucial in terms of boosting the efficiency of the Trans-Caspian International Transport Corridor (Middle Corridor), as highlighted after a powwow of experts from Bulgaria and Georgia in Tbilisi.
The dates will be nailed down at a later time.
To note, the Middle Corridor has been going strong for over a decade, but in the past couple of years, things have heated up due to new geopolitical dynamics.
A total of 2.7 million tons of cargo passed through the corridor in 2023 (86 percent growth), and in 2024 the cargo flow may exceed 4.2 million tons.
