On March 13, 2025, Abbas Abbasov, Executive Director of the Baku Initiative Group (BIG), addressed the 58th session of the Human Rights Council at the UN Office in Geneva. He strongly condemned the violence and human rights violations against children living in colonial territories.
Abbasov highlighted the challenges faced by children in French-controlled territories, including Mayotte, Réunion, Kanaky, Guadeloupe, and French Guiana. He emphasized their lack of hope for a prosperous future, limited access to education, and the severe hardships caused by extreme poverty.
In this regard, Abbasov recalled that the European Court of Human Rights had condemned the French government in a ruling issued in March 2022.
